      McCain · Food & Beverage

Packaging investigation and portfolio brand architecture, South Africa.

      Case : McCain

One page takes McCain South Africa from a single family purpose, Growing Thriving Families, down through category, occasion, preparation level and variant to individual SKUs, and reads from volume to value. It followed a Stratcom packaging investigation (Phase 4 is a visual audit).

    • Three red and white poster concepts from Stratcom's Coca-Cola Design Sprint presentation on a near-black field: the line We would love to be your new global partner on visual identity systems, a white ribbon curling around a heart, and a contour bottle silhouette tied with a ribbon.

      Coca-Cola Design Sprint

A poster Design Sprint for Coca-Cola Global Design, on visual identity systems.

      Case : Coca-Cola Design Sprint

Coca-Cola Global Design invited agencies to design a poster as a way to find new global design partners on visual identity systems. Stratcom replied with a 14-page poster concept presentation. The files hold the invitation and the presentation; they do not show the outcome.

    • Nando's Peri-Peri sauce bottles in Hot, Medium and Lemon & Herb, 125ml, from Stratcom's bottle and label work, on a near-black field.

      Nando's

Pack Price Architecture and the iconic Peri-Peri bottle, built with McCormick's production.

      Case : Nando's

A Pack Price Architecture project that upgraded the Peri-Peri bottle at the same time, developed with McCormick's, who produced for Nando's. In his letter of recommendation, John Paidoussi, CEO of Nandos Grocery International, writes that Stratcom produced the iconic bottle shapes and design architecture "over an 18 month gestation period".

    • A row of six PPC masterbrand bags in purple, green, red, black, yellow and white colourways, each carrying the PPC shield badge.

      PPC

Corporate identity as architecture: one PPC masterbrand, leading in every market.

      Case : PPC

Gail is a creative thinker who is unafraid to push the often imposed boundaries to get the client to think about approaching their target audience in a new way.

Sibongile MookoPPC client. Senior Marketing Executive | Commercial Growth & Transformation Leader | Consumer, Brand & Insights Strategy | Multi-Market African Leadership | Coach, Speaker & MentorSee it on LinkedIn (opens in a new tab)

Corporate identity treated as architecture. The PPC files hold the sequence: a fragmented portfolio, the models of brand architecture, a monolithic branded-house answer with PPC leading, a SURE naming prefix, a three-tier navigation system, Francophone naming, and a shield badge proposed to replace the round quality-stamp seal.

    • The Vamara bull mark in graphite on a concrete wall between red, pink and yellow panels, with the line At Vamara we break new ground.

      ETG World (Vamara)

Built the entire identity for a new FMCG group, across countries.

      Case : ETG World (Vamara)

The unusual part is the scope. Vamara is a new FMCG group from ETG World, and Stratcom's files hold the whole identity for it, built as one architecture: the name, the bull and its brand story, the purpose and values, a lock-up for each of 13 markets, a colour system that codes market maturity, ten category lock-ups, the touchpoints, a brand film and the launch brochure.

    • Bioplus before and after: on the left the earlier pink pack, bottle, can and sachet with a pink arrow; on the right the new red and silver syrup carton, amber bottle, bionic berry can and sachet.

      Adcock Ingram (Bioplus)

One mother brand, three ranges, migrated in steps.

      Case : Adcock Ingram (Bioplus)

The unusual part is the migration. Bioplus began as a pharmacy-only energy tonic, and the brief was to move it from medicinal to fast-moving without losing the arrow, the red and the logo. Stratcom built one mother-brand architecture, Core, Health and Play, and walked the old look to the new in staged steps, tested on shelf simulations.

    • The Panado range on a blue sky: effervescent tablets, capsules, a 24 tablet pack and infant drops with the lion mascot.

      Adcock Ingram (Panado)

Range architecture, logo, kids and tub for a trusted brand.

      Case : Adcock Ingram (Panado)

The brief was to keep the equity of a household name and still modernise and premiumise it. The files show the answer as a system: a pain-state architecture explored for the range, a stronger logo and colour, a metallic shine, clearer format navigation, a lion-led kids range and a rethought tablet tub.

    • Three glass bottle concept renders side by side: a clear water bottle with vertical bands around a waisted body, a teal glass bottle with a spiral-twisted neck seen from above, and a tall clear water bottle with a scaled shoulder and a patterned base.

      Innovation in glass with Consol

New craft beer and water bottle concepts in glass, from an investigation and an innovation workshop.

Case : Innovation in glass with Consol

Stratcom worked with Consol, a glass packaging manufacturer, from an investigation and a full-day innovation workshop through to new bottle concepts in glass, a craft beer bottle and a grip-friendly water bottle. Each option was reviewed for how it would be made, and the files hold the work summary, the workshop and option feedback files, and the renders.

Through her current work in AI systems and her development of AgencyIQ, Gail is applying more than 30 years of brand strategy and governance experience to agentic AI.

    Proof in production

The architecture works at machine scale.

Gail Macleod built TheAgencyIQ — a governed multi-brand operating system — because she refused to let AI-era execution dilute the brand systems she has spent 30 years perfecting. It is living proof that the architecture works at machine scale.

My methodology begins with structured investigation — from market dynamics through to packaging legislation, sustainability modelling, supply chain realities and competitive analysis — before progressing into strategic architecture and engineered execution.

    Questions, answered

    The short answers.

    • Gail Macleod is a global brand strategist and packaging architect with 30 years of experience. She founded Stratcom Branding in Johannesburg (est. 1996), co-founded the Global Local Branding Alliance (GLBA) with Thomas Reiner of Berndt+Partner (Berlin) and Dave Ceradini of Ceradini Brand Design (New York), and is the founder of TheAgencyIQ. Her primary identity is https://gailmacleod.ai.

    • Macleod GLBA (Macleodglba Pty Ltd) is Gail Macleod's brand and packaging architecture practice, and it trades as TheAgencyIQ. Gail built GLBA's Australian presence through it. It serves clients in South Africa, Australia, the United States and the United Kingdom.

    • GLBA is the Global Local Branding Alliance, an international alliance of branding agencies. Three founding agencies, Stratcom (Johannesburg), Berndt+Partner (Berlin) and Ceradini Brand Design (New York), grew it to seven agencies with Istanbul, Shanghai, Moscow and São Paulo. Gail Macleod is a co-founder and is still involved.

    • Stratcom Branding is the independent branding agency Gail Macleod founded in Johannesburg (est. 1996). It is still a registered company. Its work covers packaging, corporate identity and brand architecture for food, beverage, FMCG and agri clients.

    • Brand architecture is how a company's brands, sub-brands, products and variants relate to each other: hierarchy, naming, colour and claims, organised as one governed system. Gail's examples include the McCain portfolio architecture, PPC's move to one masterbrand, Vamara's entire identity for a new FMCG group across 13 markets and Nando's Pack Price Architecture. Every corporate identity Gail builds is an architecture: it decides which brand leads and where each name sits.

    • Stratcom's account files name clients including McCain, Nando's, Danone, PPC, Parmalat, Distell, Tiger Brands, Nestlé, Adcock Ingram, South African Breweries and ETG World (Vamara). Gail also responded to the Coca-Cola Global Design Sprint. The full list is on the clients and work page.

    • Nando's was a Pack Price Architecture project with an upgraded iconic Peri-Peri bottle, developed with McCormick's production. In his letter of recommendation, John Paidoussi, CEO of Nandos Grocery International, wrote of an "18 month gestation period" and "unprecedented growth in most categories".

    • Gail and Stratcom built the entire identity for Vamara, a new FMCG group from ETG World, across countries. The files hold the name, the bull and its brand story, the purpose and values (innovation, passion, strength), a lock-up for each of 13 markets, a four-colour system that codes markets as Established, Emerging, Frontier or Potential, ten category lock-ups, the touchpoints and a brand film. The case page at macleodglba.com/case/vamara shows the bull, the architecture and the 13 markets.

    • Gail and Stratcom built the Bioplus mother-brand architecture for Adcock Ingram. Bioplus began as a pharmacy-only energy tonic, and the brief was to move it from medicinal to fast-moving while keeping the arrow, the red and the logo. The architecture put Bioplus over Core, Health and Play ranges, and the old look was migrated to the new in staged steps, tested on shelf simulations. The files do not report sales results.

    • Panado is a household name in South Africa, and the brief for Adcock Ingram was to retain its equity while modernising and premiumising the logos and packaging. The files show a fine-tuned logo, enhanced colour, a metallic shine, clearer format navigation, a range architecture explored by pain state, Panado Plus, a lion-led kids range and a rethought tablet tub. The files do not report sales results.

    • PPC's corporate identity was treated as an architecture: a fragmented cement portfolio moved to one PPC masterbrand that leads at corporate, market, consumer and product level, a proposed shield badge replacing the round quality-stamp seal, a SURE naming prefix (FOR for French-speaking markets) and a three-tier navigation system. Seven countries are named in the architecture files: South Africa, Zimbabwe, Botswana, Mozambique, Ethiopia, Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo. Sibongile Mooko, a PPC client, recommended Gail on LinkedIn.

    • Steri Stumpie was a structural HDPE bottle range developed with Parmalat in the iconic shape of the 350 ml, at 200, 250, 300, 350, 500 and 1000 ml. The bottles are filled hot and sterilised in the tower under pressure. Stratcom produced technical drawings for the range, and the 350 ml drawing was signed off.

    • Stratcom worked with Consol, a glass packaging manufacturer, from an investigation and a full-day innovation workshop through to two new bottle concepts in glass, a craft beer bottle and a grip-friendly water bottle. Each option was reviewed with Consol for how it would be made in glass. The case page shows the concept renders and pre-work sketches.
